About LandMan

LandMan is a geospatial portal designed to serve as a comprehensive metadata management platform. It functions as a catalogue for heterogeneous and interdisciplinary data collections, offering adaptable tools for managing and presenting data through a configurable service system.

More than a repository

LandMan supports a metadata catalogue with search functionalities, a data collection map, and a deeper integrative component, allowing retrieval and joint exploration of data records of different nature. Furthermore, the portal provides dynamic map-based visualisations, making it easier for users to explore and interpret geospatial datasets. LandMan supports cutting-edge research by providing an adaptable and user-friendly platform for the sustainable management and analysis of complex research datasets.

Supporting the FAIR principles

Adhering to the DFG FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), LandMan ensures private, protected and public access levels to promote early data exchange before open publication with DOIs and, e.g., CC licenses. LandMan provides facilities for data and metadata management making research data findable and accessible for internal and external researchers.

Based at the Johanna-Mestorf-Academy

LandMan serves as a joint solution for research conducted in the framework of the Johanna-Mestorf-Academy, including both research collaborations CRC 1266 and the Cluster of Excellence ROOTS initiatives. The system is embedded at Kiel University with direct support on infrastructural issues, ensuring fast and easy solutions.

Open for all researchers

Initially developed for research at the Johanna-Mestorf-Academy, LandMan is open for management and maintenance of research data from all researchers in archaeology and other scientific areas and disciplines. Our goal is to strengthen international and interdisciplinary research by sharing access to LandMan as a platform for highly collaborative research.

Support a secure storage of your research data

The LandMan-Repository is a catalogue to find and access your research data wherever it is stored, if accessible by link or functions. The LandMan-Repository is not a storage system for science datasets. However, the LandMan-Coordination service can support you, as an additional offer if needed, in storing your scientific data in a secure place. We offer this support in cooperation with opendata@uni-kiel, the open data platform of Kiel University.
